Enemies
Cherrylicious » Devlog
Hey everyone! This week, I've been hard at work on Cherrylicious, and I'm excited to share all the progress I've made.
First and foremost, I've added multiple levels to the game, which is a huge milestone. The new Level 2 is a completely different experience from Level 1, with new enemies and obstacles to overcome. I've added blades that move between two points at a constant speed, at some stages of the level I've added three blades very close to each other with different starting points. I've also added blades that rotate on the edges of the platform, and they look cool, to be honest.
I've also added some more cool spike balls that work similarly to the blades but are much more powerful. I've included attacking air balls that are very small and can be missed easily, making them quite challenging for players. And, in Level 2, I've given the rock head with animations a new power - it now works as a trap. Be sure to stay away from that!
Next up, I've added a fan to the beginning of the level, which obviously has blades in it, and with the help of animations, I've made it look like it's rotating. This should give players a more engaging gameplay experience.

During this week’s tutorial, I have also received some feedback. One of my classmates and my tutor himself felt that some of the hitboxes for enemies can feel mean. To address this, I will consider making them slightly smaller than the enemy to give players a bit of leniency. I will also work on making sure that all deaths feel fair and avoidable.
In terms of Level 1, I apologize for any confusion or frustration caused by the cherries under the spikes in the first pit. I will review that section of the level to make it clearer and more enjoyable for players. Additionally, I was made aware of an inconsistency with the stone idol in Level 1 and Level 2. I will review that area to ensure that the player's experience is consistent and predictable across levels by giving players some sort of hint which will tell them that this time the rock works as an enemy and might kill them.

Finally, I've added a feature that allows players to move to Level 2 automatically, and I've placed the fan so close to the starting point of Level 2 that it should surprise players. The ending of Level 2 has only one option - taking the moving platform, which will take the player to the finishing flag.

Thank you for following my progress on Cherrylicious, and I'm excited to continue developing and expanding the game. As always, your feedback and support are much appreciated.
