Portfolio One - Blender Basics

Week 1:

The Wooden Barrel

In the first week's introduction, we had to put some hands on creating a wooden barrel using Blender. Following a step-by-step video, I crafted the barrel and added a touch of creativity to make it look authentic. Adding unit code (KIT207) in 3D on the barrel gave it a unique and intriguing appearance. To enhance the realism, I drew lines on the surface to resemble wood grains, and two black bands were placed to secure the barrel at the top and bottom.

Bruny Island Lighthouse - A Tourist Attraction

Next up was an ambitious task: replicating a tourist attraction in Tasmania using Blender. Having recently visited Bruny Island and being captivated by its lighthouse, it became my inspiration. Using a cylinder as the base, I embarked on crafting the lighthouse. Although the foundation of the bottom base was unnecessary, it lent an appealing aesthetic to the overall design.

Employing various blender tools such as scaling, extruding, and insetting faces, I crafted the lighthouse model. I paid special attention to ensure the structure narrowed as it ascended, emulating the iconic Bruny Island lighthouse. Adding two balconies, one atop the other, I recreated the charm of the actual lighthouse.

To create boundaries for the balconies, I utilized the torus mesh in blender and scaled it accordingly. With the poles in place, I then proceeded to construct a pole on the top, complete with a directional arrow pointing north.

Crafting the lighthouse windows proved to be a challenge, but through scaling, extruding, and insetting faces, I successfully brought them to life. Delving further, I tackled the vertical windows in the front, ending a touch of authenticity to the lighthouse's appearance.

The entrance door at the bottom presented some extra (almost unnoticeable) 3D effects, making it stand out as a unique feature. To complete the visual experience, I painted the windows with green curtains, leaving the rest of the lighthouse pristine white, as is the signature of the Bruny Island lighthouse.

Week 2:

In today's tutorial, we learnt how to import blender asset creation into Unity.

I imported my barrel and other objects into Unity by saving them as FBX files and pasting them into the Assets folder. For the Blender object's texture, I saved the PNG file separately and attached it in Unity. Then, I created a prefab of the barrel and used it multiple times near the lighthouse I made and imported into Unity. With this I also imported a volcano asset and imported that into unity. I then added this behind my light house, and I have also placed a barrel with Uni name on it at the top of it.

The unity project after this tutorial looked like this:
